October 20th, 2007Starting 6:30 PM
Aerospace Machinists Hall
9135 15th Place South, Seattle, WA
Please do join all of us at Washington Women in Trades, Sisters in the Building Trades and NAWIC in celebrating Northwest Tradeswomen at our 1st Annual Dream Big Dinner, an offshoot of our vital ongoing support of Washington women working in non-traditional careers.
Over the last 28 years, we have established ourselves as a group of industry experts who facilitate connections between the working woman, the 'wanting-to-be-working' woman, prospective employers and government agencies. We have educated students about women in non-traditional trades through attendance at school career days, participation in community events and conferences. We have encouraged networking, established scholarships and counseled women through difficult work issues. Through hard work and partnership, we have had much success. While we enjoy celebrating that success, we have much more to do toward helping women both attain and retain high-wage, high-skilled careers. Unfortunately, the percentage of women in the construction trades is still a dismal 2.5%, and the need for trained workers is becoming nearly epidemic. We continue to strive toward equal opportunity and a strong community infrastructure.
Given the triumph of yet another successful Job Fair, we're delighted to present the 1st Annual Dream Big Dinner, Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Aerospace Machinists Hall in South Seattle. This special event will be three-fold: one part Awards Ceremony, one part "State of the Union" (How are we doing? What have we accomplished? Where are we going and how can we be a better resource?) and one part party, (a time to reflect and reconnect with our peers and to cultivate new relationships).
This is your chance to slip on those sequins, iron your tux and celebrate your accomplishments with your peers. Reminisce with old friends over a cocktail, meet new tradeswomen over appetizers, and generally relax over a sumptuous catered buffet.
Space is limited, so make your reservations NOW.Teamsters Women's Convention
Houston, TXSeptember 5th through 9th, 2007
800 women in attendance
Note and photos from Member Kandy Paulson, our volunteer in charge of Event Promotions
The convention was very motivating. I had the opportunity to meet and mingle with women all over the country and Canada. As well as hand out a lot of the Sisters hard hat stickers. I learned a lot about contracts from other parts of the country and realize we have it pretty good but Canada has it even better. They had classes on different subjects from women in history to a day in the life of a business agent. On Friday night the local Houston teamsters unions put on a real Texas BBQ complete with margarita machines! haha I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to go to a similar event GO I will never forget the wonderful experience and I am hoping to go to next years which will be held in Miami, FL.

This was a home for a single mom with one child. On 46th St in Tacoma. The Habitat coordinators were Jan Baker, Judy Bickenbach and Alison Paradise. It rained, we got wet, but it was warm and lots of fun was had.
